Artist Bio

Allan lives in Austin, Texas with his daughter and two blue cats.  He has been photographing off and on his whole life, but "got serious about it" about four years ago.  Allan began as an architectural photographer, with a photojournalistic approach, and an obsession with traveling all over Texas and Mexico to find subjects to shoot.  His photojournalistic approach is carried into the studio, where he shoots free-hand and works to capture candid moments.

His photographs have been sold in shops, galleries, and on this website.  He has also had photos published in The Austin Chronicle, Austin's local free weekly.  Currently he has a show at The Museum of Fine Arts Austin and has a number of pieces for sale at Spicewood Spines.

Allan shoots mostly digital (Nikon D200 and a Fuji Finepix Pro S3 UVIR), but also has a pair of 35mm instamatics, three modified Holgas from Randy over at holgamods.com (medium format plastic toy cameras), and a Digital Connections 2.1MP kid's camera from Radio Shack.  Regardless of whether he is shooting with film or digital, all editing is performed on the computer.  Allan scans his negatives in, and uses the PC for everything.  Allan is a purist, however, and rarely if ever uses the computer for anything that wouldn't be done in an ordinary darkroom.  Cropping, level adjusting, dodging and burning are about the extent of his digital manipulations.  Allan strives to capture what he's after in-camera, and views any editing work at all as a compromise of sorts.

Allan achieves his most artistic effects using his Holgas, a LensBaby 2.0 (www.lensbabies.com) and his new Fuji camera, which picks up  ultraviolet and infrared as well as the visible spectrum.  Last updated 2007-April-8
